APPROACH

Sopowerful implements solar energy where it enables better Healthcare, Education and Water access for WASH and Irrigation. Our approach and cooperation is focused on achieving a sustainable and tangible impact. We believe that without local ownership and real cooperation, no real and lasting development can be achieved.

OUR APPROACH

Fundraising
We continuously raise funds to enable our organization to run and our projects to be achieved. Funds come in through our Partners, as well as through our Sunrays: individuals that enable our work through crowdfunding.
Our team members in Malawi and Tanzania is continuously assessing the most suitable projects for us to engage in. Summarized, these are projects where we find strong local ownership, strong needs, and the right ingredients to make a long-term impact. Key requirements include that a beneficiary is willing to co-invest and take responsibility for the system once implemented.
Together with our local contractors – professional companies in Malawi and Tanzania – we design, size and engineer the systems. Our local contractors are responsible for procurement and logistics of components. Thanks to our Partners, we have access to certain quality components for free, which helps to lower the costs of projects.
Our local contractors are responsible for quality installation of our systems. We are present for supervision, safety and quality control, as well as addressing challenges together when necessary.

We carefully assess and check every installation and are on site to commission a system. This marks the conclusion of project implementation and the start of operating the solar system. The beneficiary becomes officially the owner of the system and takes over responsibility for O&M, budgeting, etc.

During the lifetime of a system our local team makes sure to monitor the use and impact of the system, and whether the beneficiary keeps its commitments.

Our local technical experts inspect systems on a yearly- or need-basis. This way we ensure safe operation and minimum downtime. For the larger projects our local contractors are involved in the O&M of the systems.
