Project summary
The need
Lebanon's financial and energy crisis has severely impacted essential services, including education. Tamkeen School faced frequent power outages and unreliable electricity, disrupting regular classes and computer lab sessions. Ensuring a stable power supply was critical to keeping the school open and providing uninterrupted education to the students.
The solution
A photovoltaic solar system with a capacity of 7 kWp was installed on the roof of Tamkeen School. Additionally, an inverter and battery room with 34 kWh battery storage were implemented to ensure a consistent energy supply, even during evening classes. This solar power system provides reliable electricity, enabling the school to maintain its operations and support its digital literacy program.
Impact
The solar power installation has transformed Tamkeen School, ensuring that over 1,600 children receive uninterrupted education every day. With a stable power supply, the school remains open, allowing students to continue learning despite the crisis. The computer lab now operates efficiently, enhancing digital literacy and technological education. This project has strengthened educational opportunities and provided a sustainable solution for the school’s energy needs. This initiative aligns with SDGs 4 and 7.
